Students will develop a “commitment to success,” which is about identifying comprehensive, realistic and meaningful goals and developing intentional strategies to achieve them.

Students will develop the skills of “inquiry & critical thinking,” to enhance their open-ended pursuit of knowledge, driven by curiosity.

Students will practice “engagement across perspectives,” to better understand themselves and others whose world view and experiences differ.

Program Description

In the Cato COED, the Prospect for Success is a year-long program for first year students and transfer students. The PFS program typically includes enrolling in PFS designated sections of EDUC 1511 in the fall and SPED 2100 in the spring. The Cato COED PFS program guides students in three Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) focused on being prepared for a future as a school counselor, teacher, administrator, etc. The SLOs include:

  • Intentionality, which is supporting students to identify and create meaningful career goals with a possible future as an educator.
  • Curiosity, which is focused on guiding students in actively participating in their educational experience through project based learning. Students examine and investigate issues related to the education system in the United States.
  • Awareness, which is guiding students in developing a deeper awareness of themselves and others through experiential learning opportunities related to education and schooling.

The Cato COED PFS has a strong team of support for students including the course instructors and advisers in the COED.
